In Māori mythology, the wheke (octopus) is no ordinary creature. When the great navigator Kupe set out to hunt Te Wheke-a-Muturangi, a powerful ocean-dwelling octopus, the chase carried him across the Pacific, leading to the discovery of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Found in coastal waters across eastern Australia and New Zealand, the Māori octopus is one of the largest and most powerful cephalopods on earth. Intelligent. Adaptable. Deeply aware. Archie leans into all of this in his own quiet way.
He doesn’t need to prove anything. He just is.
Hand drawn and carved from a single lino block, then printed by hand using traditional oil-based inks. Each print takes up to two weeks to dry.
Every print is individually pulled on a hand press. Variations in ink, pressure, and texture mean no two are exactly the same.
